Nissan
Motors Datacenter Implementation and Facility Relocation
Nissan Motors had made a decision to relocate their
headquarters facility from Gardena, Ca (outside of LA)
to Nashville, Tennessee. The goal was to provide
virtual co-location with their manufacturing facility in
Smyrna, Tn. The relocation was complex, including
the need for two datacenters in the Nashville area, a
large call center, the relocation of 2,000 jobs (with
significant loss of personnel due to the distance and
cultural change, and the distribution of datacenter
technology between the new Nissan data centers and
outsourced facilities. NewVista personnel were
engaged to provide overall Project Management and
technical expertise

Client Issues Addressed
|
-
Provide initial site survey services
to help Nissan Motors locate a
facility that was both appropriate
from a staff situation, but which
also could support the technology to
be deployed
-
Providing the expertise to develop
the overall project plan, including
both the IT and facilities
activities.
-
Developing the datacenter
architectures for both new
facilities
-
Working with Nissan's outsourced IT
Operations supplier to develop the
plans for distributing the
technology between the various
destinations, developing the
migration schedules and plans, and
providing the expertise to migrate
the environments successfully.
This was particularly challenging as
the contracts were for simple Add,
Moves and Changes and this activity
was perceived to be outside the
responsibilities of the contract
-
Developing strategies and
processes for managing the
relocation of data between the
sites and the assignment of data
and applications between current
employees that were not
relocating with the firm and new
replacements at the Nashville
locations. Also developing
strategies for assessing the
impact of changes to server
names and IP subnets on
automated processes and linked
documents.
-
Providing Project Management for the
entire project, including external
engineers, construction trades,
communications and systems vendors,
and physical technology relocation
vendors.
