Mainframe Data Center
Prudential Securities mainframe Data Center
consisted of three large IBM Mainframe processors, a large DASD
environment, Six Storage Tek Tape Library Silos, each supporting up
to 6000 tapes, and three front end processors.
Mr.
Carapola managed the creation of this Data Center from its initial
concept through completion of cutover. Some major components of this
effort included:
-
Design of the physical
environment including redundant power distribution, chilled water
cooling, cable conveyance, and air handlers.
-
Management of the trades
involved in the actual construction.
-
Tying the new Data Center
together with the old one to allow users remote access to the
resources during the migration period.
-
Modification of the
applications to reflect changes to the logical structure of the new
machine, the I/O channel structure, and DASD volume sizes.
-
Management of test
weekends, running parallel jobs on the two systems to assure all
applications were running properly before cutover.
-
Building a backout plan,
if the cutover failed during the start of business on the day after
cutover.
The entire effort was
completed in 11 months, ahead of schedule. Cutover to the new
system was accomplished without any issues.
