Expedia Datacenter Operational Readiness Assessment and Datacenter Implementation

Expedia had grown dramatically in a very short period of time, partially through the acquisition of companies, such as Hotels.com.  Their new CIO had made a decision to begin the consolidation of the multitude of datacenters that resulted from the fast growth.  Expedia retained NewVista Advisors for two distinct activities - First to perform an operational readiness assessment on their new Arizona Datacenter and, second, to provide implementation management to deploy the new systems, migrate the applications, and integrate the new facility into the processes and support organizations in place worldwide.
Client Issues Addressed

  • Provide initial Operational Readiness review of the Arizona datacenter to determine whether the datacenter was ready to be placed into operational status, what needed to be completed in order to place this location into operation and also to review the processes  and toolsets in place to manage the datacenters in their portfolio

  • Review the various monitoring and management tools that were deployed by Expedia to determine which tools should be declared as standards across the business and what new tools should be added to the portfolio

  • Determine the state of the actual systems deployments and build a plan going forward to build-out the new datacenter

  • Build project plans to migrate the communications environments and systems to the new datacenter

  • Provide Project Management to oversee the actual implementation of the systems and migration of applications.
